Alternate Means of Entry
What is an Alternate Means of Entry (AMOE) and Why is it Required?
You may be looking to run a purchase to enter promotion but have heard that doing so without providing an alternate, free means of entry (often referred to as an AMOE) is illegal. That is correct!
Including an alternate means of entry (AMOE) in your promotion removes the aspect of consideration that may unfairly bias the chance of winning towards those that are willing/can make a purchase to enter.
AMOEs are typically managed via mail but can also be done electronically.
Alternate Means of Entry or (AMOE) is a fully managed service we offer at Realtime Media in our standard compliance package. The process looks like this:
- We become your sweepstakes administrator and draft your official rules.
- We set up a mailbox to accept mail-in entries.
- We collect mail for about 8 days after the end of the promotion for all mail-in entries to arrive (for compliance purposes)
- We merge the database of mail-in entries with your online entries.
- We conduct your random winner drawing.
- We verify and notify winners on your behalf, unless you choose to.
